At Rock Hill Community Church, our goal for you as parents is to help you disciple your children to the best of your ability. We believe that the most important dynamic in a child’s spiritual life is a dad and mom who are growing in their own walk with Jesus Christ. As a parent, it is primarily your responsibility to teach your children the Scriptures and model for them what it looks like in real life to follow Jesus. Unfortunately, we live in a world where it is very common to “delegate” this responsibility to churches, Christian schools, or Wednesday night programs. While this may seem like a good idea (leave it to the professionals), study after study shows the devastating effects of this approach. Parenting can seem like an overwhelming task, but  we as a church want to equip you with various resources that will help you be intentional parents who teach and encourage their children in the faith.

The Gospel Story for Kids by Marty Machowski (New Growth Press)

Our Sunday morning Rock Hill Kids ministry uses The Gospel Story for Kids. This curriculum brings our children through the whole story of Scripture in three years (78 weeks OT, 78 weeks NT). It teaches them not only individual stories, but how each story connects to the overarching redemptive story of the Bible through Jesus. This helps children apply the Gospel to their lives rather than simply pursue good works. Check out the following links to view additional family resources this curriculum offers.

The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones (ZonderKidz)

Another resource for helping kids understand how every Bible story points to the Gospel is The Jesus Storybook Bible. (This is one of Pastor Kyle’s favorite resources for teaching his kids about Jesus.) It is very well written and illustrated and we wish that we could give a copy of this to every parent in our church. Be careful parent, you might even learn something with this one.
