What to Expect:

Why do we meet?

Hebrews 10:23-25 tells us:

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

We are to continually meet together to encourage each other and spur each other to love and good works.

What should I expect?

Each week we spend some time singing, praying, connecting with each other in fellowship, and learning from God’s Word.  Our service usually goes an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half.  Kyle usually preaches for about 40 minutes.

What should I wear?

Most people dress pretty casual when they come to Rock Hill, although a few people dress up.  I like that people feel comfortable doing either.  The biggest thing when we come together is that we don’t use our clothes to try to impress other people or God.  We value “keeping it real” with each other and especially God.

Do you have anything for my kids?

Yes, we have nursery for two different ages: infants (0-18 mo.)  and toddlers (18 mo. to 2 yrs).  We also have Kid’s church classes for children ages 3 to 8.  We encourage parents to try to have their children participate with them in worship as soon as they can get something out of it.  This is why we have those age 3-8 stay with us for the initial worship part of our service and dismiss them half way through.

So, what should I do if I have kids?

If you have children, please arrive a little early so that you can go downstairs and check them in.  You will have to sign each child in and out for safety purposes.  The children in the nursery can be signed in and dropped off before the service and signed out after the service.  The children attending Kid’s Church can be signed in before the service, brought with you to worship upstairs, dismissed before our fellowship break about (20-30 minutes in to the service), and then signed out at the end of services.

Who is watching my kids?

Our nursery and Kid’s church are run by volunteers who have all gone through a basic background check for safety.  All kid’s areas have at least two adults in the room all the time to ensure the safety of our children.

How do you do communion?

At Rock Hill, we practice what is called “open communion.”  What we mean by that is that you do not have to be a member of Rock Hill to participate with us, but you do have to be a member of “the family of God.”  Meaning, if you are a Christian who has repented of their sin and are trusting Jesus to save you, then you are welcome to participate with us.  We say this because there are a lot of people at our services that do not yet follow Jesus, they are still trying to figure this faith thing out.  This is exciting to us as a church because all of us have been there at some point, however, only those who are trusting in Christ are welcome at the Communion Table.  We don’t want to be hypocrite’s, right?
